Finds at Oakington Barracks - WWII bombs and scrap metal

The safe removal of UXO from Oakington Barracks marks the first stage of a long remediation and investigation process on Phase 2 that will include; ecology mitigation, archaeological surveys and ground investigations before any construction enabling work can start.  Mike Sainsbury from specialist UXO disposal company Zetica talks us through the process in more detail, including building and constructing a special on site facility.

Community Garden Dig a success!

Organised by Rodney Scarle and hosted by Hilary Stroude of the Longstanton and District Heritage Society a small cohort of 14 volunteers excavated a total of five test-pits over the weekend as part of the Northstowe archaeological work that is going on.  Here is thier blog about it and info on the finds.

In May 2015 the Cambridge Archaeological Unit began excavations on the largest of the sites at Northstowe Phase One.  It was always expected that this would be the largest and most complex of the sites to be investigated and so it has proved.
