A fantastic turnout at the new school for the October Northstowe Community Drop-in and Forum

The local community were excited not only to hear updates on progress now construction has begun on the first homes at Northstowe, but also to check out the new Forum venue – the community wing of the Pathfinder primary school building. Attendees were even treated to a whistle stop tour of the brand new school site by the Head teacher of Hatton Park School, who are temporarily occupying the building this academic year.

The drop-in was busy and lively. Taylor Wimpey and Linden Homes brought along plans and details on the proposed layout and look and feel of the homes for their sites. Officers from County Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC), along with representatives from Gallagher and HCA were also on hand to answer questions.

Community Forum - NEW VENUE October 19th

The next Community Forum will be on October 19th 7pm-9pm with an informal drop in between 6pm and 7pm at the new Pathfinder Primary School, Northstowe, there is plenty of parking at the school.  Lots to update on.  Agenda attached.  Hope to see you there.  Directions:

It was a hot summer evening for the July Community Forum

The quarterly Northstowe Community Forum was well attended again by the local community who were keen to hear about recent progress on site.  Here’s an update for those who were unable to attend.

It was good to see presentations from three of the housebuilders that will be building homes on Phase One of Northstowe: Bloor Homes Eastern, Barratt Homes and Taylor Wimpey.

A14 update and community fund

The A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme has been given the go ahead for construction. The decision was announced by the Secretary of State on Wednesday 11 May, following a statutory Development Consent Order (DCO) examination by the Planning Inspectorate.

Surveys, surveys and more surveys!

As we get ever closer to start of construction on phase 2 we are busy with updating environmental and engineering surveys and preparing pre-commencement works. These updates and additional surveys are vital to enable us to bring forward the detailed design of phase two and ensure that we can manage and minimise future construction impacts by having up-to-date and detailed information.

Big things planned for healthy town

As a town planner working for the Homes and Communities Agency, Northstowe is a once in a life time opportunity to create a successful new place from scratch. It is quite a responsibility and I am getting involved in a number of initiatives that require thought from the outset of the detailed design stages.  One of these is the Healthy Towns initiative set up by NHS England whereby new developments could apply to be designated a Healthy Town.

What is a Design Code?

HCA is about to consult on the ‘Design Code’ for phase two at Northstowe – this document acts as a critical link between outline planning and detailed design.  Katja Stille, Associate Director at Tibbalds talks further about the importance of Design Codes to large scale developments in particular – both in terms of maintaining quality of design and as a great tool for delivery of new communities.
