More homes on the way for landmark new town

Planning permission granted for the ‘heart’ of the town which includes 3500 homes

More than half the homes in the ‘heart’ of the town centre will be sold or rented at below market rates - forty per cent will be starter homes for first time buyers.

The planning permission, issued by South Cambridgeshire District Council on 9 January 2017 for the 3,500 homes that are included in the phase also includes £73m of community benefits and detailed permission for a new road which will link Northstowe and the B1050 near an improved A14.

Work will commence later this year with homes ready for occupation in 2019, meanwhile new homes are already being delivered on Northstowe Phase 1 with seventeen homes already sold and residents expected to move in as early as April 2017.

Mike Goulding from the Homes and Community Agency’s Large and Priority Sites Team said:

“This is an exciting way to start the New Year. We’ve still got a lot of work to do to deliver this important development for Cambridgeshire, however obtaining the planning permission is an important step. Delivering a whole new town is a once in a lifetime opportunity. We are gearing up to deliver good homes and facilities quickly to meet local need”

In combination with the planning permission for phase one the proposals for both phase one and phase two will deliver approximately 50 per cent of Northstowe’s projected housing and also significant elements of the town’s required infrastructure, the town centre, the site for the secondary school, 2 primary schools and the Southern Access Road (West) - a crucial new highway link from the south.
